It's that time of year. The weather is getting colder, the malls are getting busy and Cigar Aficionado reveals their Top 25 cigars for the year.
To some this is more exciting than watching the ball drop in Times Square.
For me, it's my chance to see what the editors of the magazine where thinking and to be happy for the vendors that I know who are on the list.
Making this list means that the sales of that particular cigar with skyrocket as everyone who hasn't tried them thinks they are missing out.
This years it seems the folks at CA leaned on the heavier, more full bodied side of the cigar spectrum. A couple of the cigars on the list are old favorites, Padron, Oliva Serie V, Arturo Fuente and Aging Room. Some are solid cigars that I like but wouldn't rate them as high as they are on the list. (ask me and I'll tell you) While others, well lets say I disagree totally.
In any case, the blogs will be busy with people agreeing or disagreeing with the claims of pay for play, favoritism etc.
For those of you just starting out in the cigar hobby, this list is a great place to start. Except for the 3 Cuban cigars, most of these should be readily available at any reputable cigar retailer.
So start at the top or the bottom and work your way though the list and ENJOY.
